CK Live from Austin: Wemby done for season

Just a quick update on Victor ahead of tonight's game.

Thanks to all who joined for this quick live show. Mitch Johnson spoke about the situation pre-game, and I wanted to share a few quotes from his media session in addition to this video.

Question: “Could you tell the origins of what caused the condition with Wemby — what the origin of it was?”

Johnson: “I'm not smart enough or inclined enough with the medical expertise, but this is what I can say: After All-Star break, Victor felt his arm didn't feel completely normal. That was articulated to our medical staff. They looked into it and that's how we got here. Anything earlier than that is grasping at straws [in terms of cause].”

Question: “Was it just shocking news to get for the rest of the season?”

Johnson: “I mean, I think any time you lose a player for an extended amount of time, it's something you kind of have to take a step back and wrap your head around, and it changes things. Someone of his magnitude, that plays a role like him, even more so.”

Question: “What was the timeline on the testing and the results of the test?”

Johnson: “This started, probably conversations regarding it around Monday. I don't know exactly the time. Again, it was with our medical staff. Everybody was off on their own and so in the last three days, this is kind of what has transpired.”

Question: “(The organization is optimistic) that he'll be back next year. I know you can't speak to those specific medical reasons for that, but did that come from your medical staff and doctors saying that he should be back next year?”

Johnson: “Yes, the medical experts and the people that are smarter than everybody in the room have … confirmed that he'll be done this year and that there is no concern for Victor's long-term health personally or anything related to his basketball activities, and that there is no reason to believe that he won't be ready to go for the start of next season.”

Question: “Has the medical team given you any indication what the treatment plan looks like for Victor, starting now and going forward?”

Johnson: “I know there's been a lot of conversation. I'm sure there'll be a lot more. I don't know much, and with that stuff we'll probably keep that private at this point. But again, I think to anchor that to, obviously, that we know he won't be with us this season the rest of the way, and we feel good with our plan on him being with us for the start of next year.”

Will have more on this over the next couple of days, but Mitch was good on the subject tonight. Hopefully these quotes give folks a little more information.
